ABOUT ME

I’m Penny Barry, BSN, CSC, a maternity nurse, night nurse and infant care specialist, with twenty years of hands-on experience supporting babies and families through the earliest weeks and months of life.

I offer calm, expert newborn support for the earliest weeks and months. My background spans both medical and non-medical training, alongside extensive private family work and hospital-based experience, including roles at leading hospitals and trusts from New York to London.

As an Asian British practitioner, I bring a broad, culturally informed, and highly practical perspective to newborn support, one shaped by years of caring for babies and parents in both clinical settings and private homes.

Over time, I became increasingly aware of a significant gap in early parenthood. So much focus is placed on pregnancy and birth, yet many parents are left feeling under-supported once the baby arrives, especially when it comes to feeding, settling, nights, naps, rhythm, and the emotional disorientation of the early weeks.

The Early Weeks Studio was created to help fill that gap.

It exists to offer a calmer, more thoughtful kind of support for parents who want gentle, practical guidance around newborn sleep, feeding, settling, and rhythm, without harsh sleep training, rigid formulas, or internet noise.

  • Rhythm over rigidity

Helping parents recognise and support their baby’s natural rhythms, without forcing unrealistic schedules.

  • Feeding & Sleep as connected

Understanding that better nights are supported by what happens in the day.

  • Calm Foundations First

You do not need to ‘fix’ sleep. I help you look at the wider picture and introduce a framework wherein sleep can calmly occur.

Why I started The Early Weeks Studio

After years of working quietly, closely, and discreetly alongside families in their homes, I wanted to create a space where more parents could access this kind of support.

I saw again and again that parents were often well prepared for birth, but far less prepared for what came after: the day-to-day reality of feeding, settling, naps, nights, wind, reflux, overtiredness, and the constant question of whether they were doing it right.

I created The Early Weeks Studio to offer something calmer and more useful in that gap. A place where parents could find thoughtful guidance, gentle structure, and support that works in real life.

  • Gentle Support, Not Harsh methods

My work is designed to help families build better patterns without cry-it-out or harsh sleep training.

  • Real Life over Theory

Every baby is different, and every family is different. My approach is practical, tailored and grounded in what actually works with real parents in real homes.

  • Confidence for Parents & Babies

A large part of this work is helping parents feel calmer, more informed, and more able to trust what they are seeing.

the basis of my method

At the heart of my work is the belief that sleep is not something to fix later, once it has already become a struggle.

I support parents to build gentle rhythm, feeding, settling, and sleep foundations from the very beginning, in a way that feels calm, responsive, and realistic.

My approach is based on:

  • rhythm over rigidity

  • feeding and sleep as connected, not separate

  • calm foundations first

  • gentle support, not harsh methods

  • real life over theory

  • confidence for parents as well as babies

When these foundations are supported early, many babies become beautifully settled without families ever needing to turn to harsher sleep training later on.
